What the … ?

Surfboard SidecarTuesday, November 20, 2007 – A reasonable person might well wonder just what’s going on around here. And we’re not talking about the somewhat unusual motor vehicle depicted above, we’re talking about this operation: the online presence of the nation’s most venerable newspaper.

Sorry to disappoint, but the answer is, nothing to get excited about. We’re just bumping along, putting out the paper, and occasionally dropping the ball. Which is why we haven’t posted anything new since 11/11.

We did put the paper out last Friday. Skeptics are invited to scrutinize the number and date on our banner, above. There’s a fairly scandalous story on page one, but this operation isn’t organized enough yet for us to blurt it out here, because some of our subscribers won’t have the paper yet.

As for the fine rig in the picture, it’s a “slash five” era BMW with a couple of old ammo boxes mounted on the sidecar. Oddly enough, the arrangement is not set up for the purpose of carrying ammunition, or even tools – unless you call a surfboard a tool.

We could have grilled the rider/builder for his name and hometown and all that jazz, but we were in haste, and frankly we’re sick to death of newspapers prying into the affairs of private citizens. If you read the Award-Winning Local Daily, you would be too.

Now, if you’ll excuse us, we have some deferred maintenance to attend to here.

It has been a long while since I have come upon a journal as literate and entertaining as the New Hampshire Gazette.

I hope you will stay online “ad infinitum”.

Many thanks !
