All Right, All Ready

Friday, December 14, 2007 — Yes. Well. It seems that three and a half weeks have passed since we got off our editorial duff and posted anything new here. Our anonymous friend on the Beemer has been sitting motionless at that stoplight long enough. And the clamor for a reconstituted Chickenhawk Database has been overwhelming. We had hoped we could (a) figure out how to put it together, (b) build the framework, (c) fill in the data, and (d) unveil it, all without too much delay. We had hoped that for months; we could continue in that same direction until spring.

So we have jettisoned that plan and will now proceed with a simpler plan: Let’s use this post and the Comments to discuss how the thing ought to be structured. At this point the alleged editor has some ideas about it, but with such a tough audience, he’d like to spread the blame when people begin picking it apart.

Until we find out that it is impossible, we’d like to proceed with the idea that we could allow visitors who want to nominate a chickenhawk to enter the relevant data for the candidate into the fields of a form, hit “enter,” and bingo: the chickenhawk is listed.

Meanwhile (in theory) visitors wanting to see who’s already listed could use pop-up menus to sort for a particular state, or a profession, or a particular war avoided, &c., &c., hit “enter,” and see all those fitting those criteria in all their white-feathered glory.

The editor will be consulting with a professional to work out the details of why his vision cannot be implemented. In the meantime, we invite visitors to enter Comments below, excoriate him for his slothful ways, and express their own vision for the national asset of which we have been such a poor steward.

  1. Hey, are you guys still around? It’s almost the end of September, 2008. Debate night at Ole Miss! Where is da list???? I love looking at it. All my favorite hate-ya’s are there, especially Mister Boehner, who got a tummy ache his first week in the Navy and got to go home to Mommy and Daddy, or was it a crick in his back, or a broken fingernail? What a stud he thinks he is today! Rrrrarrrr!

    Need to know everyone over there is OK, too. Well are ya? Guess I’ll have to read other sections of this paper. Looks pretty good, actually.

  2. I am also interested in finding the original creator of the chickenhawk logo, and if possible obtaining a higher resolution copy. Thanks! (You can email me from my website)

  3. Thank You Admin!;c}

    Some of our Newer Combat Vets, that shouldn’t be, are running ‘chickenhawk’ lists, with any found vids or information, they’ve been abit busy with the Multiple Tours and hadn’t seen the much traveled nhgazette Very Popular list.

    Now that their home, the ones who survived, well they’d like to know where their ‘Support’ really comes from, Magnetic Ribbons and All!!

    Funny you should ask: “what about these pop-ups, or at least a link to the old list while you play on a new one!” [?]

    A like-minded colleague recently asked – we’re talking hours, not days – our approval of just such a project. An interim, stop-gap, provisional Chickenhawk Database v. 1.1, you might call it, until such time as v. 2.0 is ready for Prime Time.

    Check in again soon. Very soon.

  5. OK, you’ve let us know, now what about these pop-ups, or at least a link to the old list while you play on a new one!

    I came in a couple of weeks ago to get the URL to pass out and Low and Behold, no list!

    C’mon folks, these are our Brave ‘chickenhawks’, We Need To View and ‘Honor’ as we paste a magnetic ‘Support’ ribbon on their Mugs!!!!!!!!!!!
