Chester Trent Lott, Sr.
Chickenhawk First Class with Distinguished Fleeing Cross
October 9, 1941
Too studious & virile to die for his country
Exuding team spirit
Senator turned Lobbyist
Trent, like George W., is a hawk who spent his college years waving pom-poms and cheering on the boys on the football team. He told the Memphis Commercial Appeal in January 1997 that he could not recall getting any draft deferments. The paper had the audacity not to take him at his word, and checked with the Selective Service. They recalled an educational deferment, a graduate educational deferment, and a hardship deferment due to the impending birth of his son Chester.
