Every newspaper these days must work out its own relationship to the digital realm. Here is ours: We are firmly committed to ink on paper. It has served us well since October 7, 1756, and we are not about to abandon it. Since then, human ingenuity has developed many innovative devices and processes intended to improve the quality of our lives, some of which actually work. Consequently, we now have the technology to post a “pdf” of our paper here at the same time we send it to our printer, making it available to the whole world before it arrives at the homes of our subscribers. But that just wouldn’t seem right.
So, we are adopting the practice of posting the previous issue, at the time our latest issues goes to press. Herewith, we offer our Volume 252, No. 15; April 18, 2008. On May 16, we’ll post the pdf of our May 2 paper, and so on, ad infinitum.
