Congressman Guinta Palinizes the 2nd Amendment

Sunday, January 9, 2011 — First District Congressman Frank Guinta was given a great honor Thursday. During the reading of the Constitution, Guinta was selected to read the Second Amendment: “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

The Congressmen put a Palinesque twist on his reading, though. In place of “infringed,” Guinta said something that sounded like “afringed.” Here’s the audio:

UPDATE, January 10, 8:32 p.m.: Bubba Jenson has commented, “I think it’s time to get your hearing checked.”

Just for you, Bubba, here’s just the part where Rep. Guinta says “shall not be [whatever it is he says].”

We stand by our transcript. Anyone stand with Bubba?

UPDATE 2, January 13, 5:34 a.m.: David Brewster has commented, “It’s very clearly ‘afringed’. I have had my hearing checked at work, and I get my earwax removed annually by my doctor.”

  1. There is enough really bad and stupid going on out there that needs the Gazette’s – and everyone’s attention. Please quit pointing fingers and ridiculing a simple mispronunciation in a situation that must have been pretty charged for a new Congressman. Republican or Democrat let’s at least be civil where the issue is innocent.
Go after the congresspeople who are trying to lower the criterion for rape, or who want to disemplower the EPA, or who are putting congressional time and energy into stopping abortion rather than into caring for the children out there who were not aborted and now need mental and physical health care, etc., etc., etc.
