Wednesday, May 11, 2011 — Normally quiet Penhallow Street has been a scene of intermittent chaos since last fall, as contractors and city workers have worked to re-route various subterranean utilities, but yesterday took the cake — and the cookies, and the sandwiches, and the soup. Ceres Bakery closed early so these boys could make way for a spiffy new granite step.
The city is through beating up on Penhallow Street now, and Ceres Bakery seems to have emerged unscathed — had some wicked good lemon chicken barley soup there yesterday. No compensation for the disruption, though. That would run counter to our “Live Free or Die” ethos.
I feel real sorry for the traders in Penhallow Street. I hope they are getting compensation for the loss of business.
