Monday, October 6, 2008—Two days without a post. Read this, then ask if you really want to complain about that.
Stock markets around the world are diving into the sewer, thanks to “conservative” American knuckleheads who insisted on de-regulating banks and finance.
Today we learn that Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA) recently said that some Congressmen were told if they didn’t pass the big bailout bill (which has yet to save the global economy) the federal government—which is to say, Dick “Dick” Cheney—might have to “impose martial law.”
Is it un-American to ask if this is what the Founding Fathers really had in mind?
In the event that we, as a nation, actually make it through the run-up to the November 4 election—which is what we suspect this financial crisis is really all about—we would find it encouraging if a few people would join us in the effort to create a free press in this country. We wouldn’t be in the sewer now if we’d had one the past eight years.
We still have a free press in this country (I think), but they’re definitely not asking the right questions. Here’s two examples of questions which could/should have been asked of Bush at one of his rare press conferences over the past 7.5 years. Either or both would have gone a long way towards exposing what a phony he is:
1) With each ad nauseum declaration that the country is much safer from terrorism under a Republican administration, would it really have been too much of a burden for just one reporter to ask: “With all due respect, sir, exactly who was in power for NINE months before the 9/11 attacks?”
2) “Your opposition to stem cell research is well-known. If you or a close family member ever faced one of the life-threatening diseases which stem cell research promises to cure, would you not be on the first plane out to whichever country is in the medical forefront?”
Just two of hundreds of pertinent questions which our free — but apparently sleeping — press might have asked.
