Pink Flamingos

I have this thing for pink flamingos; had one on my lawn for twenty-eight years in Philadelphia. When it finally died of old age—so weathered that it simply fell apart—my dear friend Dale sent two more from Waukesha, Wisconsin. – But a dozen years ago, we downsized to a condo, and of course the courtyard was common ground, so I couldn’t put my pink flamingos on the lawn. Tiananmen Mythology

Balzano After another anniversary of the June 4th Tiananmen Square “massacre”—an event enshrined in the Western imagination as the defining symbol of Chinese authoritarianism—it is worth revisiting how the story was originally reported, amplified, mythologized, and then quietly redacted and corrected by many of the same Western journalists who helped turn it into political scripture. The Tiananmen story entered American political mythology in June 1989 as media coverage saturated audiences with claims that thousands of peaceful Chinese protesters had been massacred by tanks and machine-gun fire inside Tiananmen Square. Sounding the Alarm on Section 224

To the editor: Section 224 of the National Defense Authorization Act 2027, announced May 23, 2026, is quite alarming. It provides for almost a complete integration of the U.S. military with Israel’s military, meaning the U.S. military data may soon be Israel’s data. In addition, it would shift the funds the U.S. now gives Israel to deep inside the Pentagon, where sunlight rarely shines. While some will argue that this integration already exists, Section 224 brings this to a new level providing Israel with a level of integration with the U.S. higher than the U.S. has with any other country in the world.
