Tuesday, January 1, 2008 — Wednesday, January 2, 2008 — Thursday, January 3, 2008 — Friday, January 4, 2008 — On this day some number of years ago, we resolved never again to make any resolutions on this day. Today, we break that resolution, and resolve to post every day. More regularly. A little more often. We must, however, caution the reader against expecting the sort of constant Bruckheimeresque commotion in which some websites traffic.
We were stimulated to throw off our torpor by a metaphor, used in an article published Tuesday in the Boston Globe (see right) in which David Mehegan compares author Seth Shulman to a private detective. Shulman has written a revisionist account of Alexander Graham Bell’s “invention” of the telephone.
Ordinary? check. Obsessed? Check. Blind alleys? Check. Confused? Check. Riddled with doubts? Check. Dogged? Well, it has taken us four days to post this entry, but we haven’t quit yet.
I really wish someone could show me some actual evidence of Senator Obama being an “agent of change” or offering “hope” or being the “anti-war candidate”. I have watched Senator Obama closely after he became Senator. I watched and listened to many Senate hearings including the John Bolton and Condi Rice nomination hearings. While Senators Kennedy, Boxer, Kerry, Biden, Dodd and Lincoln Chaffee asked hard driving questions, Senator Obama played softball sitting on the fence with his finger in the wind.
More recently Senator Obama happened to be out of town when the most critical issue on what strategy our nation would take in regard to Iran, and Senator Obama skipped town. While I completely disagree with Senator Clintons yes vote for the Kyl Lieberman amendment, which Senator Webb called “tantamount to declaring war on Iran”. I have more respect for Senator Clinton for taking a stand (even though she lost me) rather than not voting.
So I ask just where has Senator Obama actually been an “agent of change”? He has a masterful spin machine on full speed, convincing the young based on hype. Obama is a fence sitter with his finger in the wind. Senator Clinton has shown herself to be a warmonger.
Former Senator Edwards is the only candidate involved in “bold” action by not taking PAC MONEY. Hello not taking PAC MONEY. Edwards is actually walking his talk by at this very moment tacking corporate greed by not taking their money. John Edwards learned a very valuable lesson from his mistake in 2002 by voting for the war resolution which was based on false information.
Vote for the candidate who supports diplomacy in the middle east and walking his talk. Vote for John Edwards!
